Blondie Bird and Friends presented for Carnival 2004, Mexic, a brief historical account of the tribes that created Mexico's earliest civilizations.

The Mesoamerican region once constituted peoples which occupied the central area of Mexico down to Guatemala and Honduras. They were many different peoples with their own ethnic and linguistic differences coexisting. They had a cultural homogeneity, for instance, they cultivated corn, has a singular structure of government, they used 365 day calendars, built pyramids, they used similar rituals and worshipped the same gods and goddesses of the sky, nature, fertility, and war. The common concept of cosmic duality, the beginning and the end, appeared in the religion and art of all Mesoamerican cultures.

Our production of Mexic focused on three tribes and cultures that existed in this period, the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas. Through our art, we will show how these cultures have shaped modern day Mexico. We will also illustrate how they were conquered by the conquistadors, the most famous of whom were Hernandez Cortes, who defeated the Aztec in Mexico, and Francisco Pizarro, who conquered the Incan empire in Peru.

Aztecs
Probably the most well-known of all of Mexico's ancient cultures. The Aztec empire was established in the valley of Mexico with Tenochtitlan, now Mexico City, the main city of state

Mayans
Their achievements included a huge empire with complex systems of mathematics and astrology. They were also skilled traders.

Incas
They were great builders. The entire Incan system of government ensured that people were working all the time, trading goods, farming, making handicrafts, building roads, bridges, and homes.
